The Snows They Melt The Soonest...
I love this song, it's one of many I grew up with and Dick Gaughan's dark celtic timbre is engrained fondly into my childhood's listening. I'm posting it just because it' s been in my head today and its a beautiful song, so I thought I'd share it...
Time and tide seem to be rushing by so fast lately, so sorry I've not been around much lately folks... I'll post some artwork soon and I have a painting bursting to get started the moment time and energy allow!
I went to Art in Action last weekend which topped me up with inspiration and a great motivation to get painting, not least because of the wonderful Russian watercolours and beautiful new sable brushes I came home with! More on that later with photos to come!
In the meantime here's a few photos of the wonderful Watersmeet pathway at Lynmouth near Exmoor we visited a few weeks back, that I've been inspired to show after seeing Valerianna's wonderful wild woods and waterfalls over at RavenWood Forest
Its very much Tolkien territory don't you think?
Is this tree yawning or singing? Either way its the wrong side of midnight, so I better be off to bed! Goodnight folks, back soon!

An enchanted wood for sure! Quite beautiful. I do love the gnarled path of trees... glad to be the inspiration for you to share these photos. I think the tree is singing, they like to sing, I think!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous song, Carrie....I've just gone off lyric hunting while I was listening, I might try learning it! And those photos make me homesick in a way I can't really explain...beautiful, so very beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing that song. I didn't know of Dick Gaughan - what a beautiful voice. Gets right under your skin.
ReplyDeleteThe photos of your walk are so, so lovely. I wish there were forests like that around here (in southern Germany)- there are some nice ones, but they just don't have the same, magical feel to me.
Can't wait to see photos of your latest work!
Yes, those gnarly twisted woodlands are so lovely with the river too as constant presence to the side...
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked the song too...and Christina, I hope you do learn it, the melodies would suit you I think... there are lots of really great songs on that album - 'Handful of Earth'
A piece of the Shire, to be sure!
ReplyDeleteAnd the tree seems to be beginning to say something, it just takes a very long time... you know how it is with the trees :))
Hehehe, yes though he might have to clear his throat of moss first!
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful woodland walk, and definitely looks as if it's a step into the pages of Tolkien's books. I must remember to pay it a visit when I'm next in Lynmouth. I do love Lynmouth, so pretty there. Glad you came away inspired from Art in Action. It really does sound wonderful.
ReplyDeleteVery Tolkien indeed! I am sure you will have been inspired by your walk. I particularly love the tree.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photographs of a beautiful place, lots of inspiration. The finished portrait of the two boys looks lovely, someone will enjoy it and treasure it.
ReplyDeleteAn exciting day with the birds. I have watched similar demonstrations at shows, wouldn't have felt so brave, well done.
Hope you are enjoying Summer.
