Starting work on a new studio at last.... and some medieval mayhem!

Well, I had some time off work today, my planned walk in the woods was rained off so I thought I would make a start finally on my studio to be!
I'm finding it very hard to get on with any artwork in our tiny house and the thought of having a brilliant space of my own is really exciting. If only we had a ten day week to get it done! So, I armed myself with the pick hammer thingy and began to knock and scrape away all the ancient loose crumbly lime plaster from the outer walls...

I ended up with dust and chips of mortar in my hair, eyes, in my clothes, and blisters on my hands too but after a couple of hours it started to look like this...

I got half way up that wall so far but I'll need a ladder for the rest another day, then some serious re-pointing and plaster board for the internal walls. But little by little I SHALL have a studio!

And now for something completely different... It was the town's Medieval Fayre day again last weekend so as we did last year I dressed our shop window for the occasion, this is one I really enjoy putting together...

Tony ready to fend off awkward customers!
And this year we thought we would dress the part too...Tony wore that chain mail coif all day, even in the workshop and had neck ache for the next two days! Its really heavy... It seemed to go down well with the customers though. I suppose they might have had picture framers in the middle ages???

Needless to say there were a lot of lines quoted from Monty Python's Holy Grail! Tony's off now to go and fight the Vicious Chicken of Bristol!
More studio updates, hopefully coming soon!

Sorry I just couldn't resist this clip......

  1. Love your beautiful hair! You two look awesome. How thick are those walls in your future studio? It's going to be a delightful place to create when you finish.

  3. How exciting - your 'studio in the making' will be a wonderful place to work. I'm sure it has a nice atmosphere with those thick stone walls. Just a small matter of all the restoration work to see to, and you will be sorted! It will put my messy studio to shame soon enough!

Lovely pictures of you in your costumes too :o)

    1. Thanks June, I can't wait to make it my space... I've only ever had little cluttered corners or the kitchen table up to now. An actual studio will make all the difference!

    1. I sure will, though it might take a little while! Good things come to those who wait, or those who don't give up anyway!

  5. Fabulous photos, you two look wonderful dressed in medieval garb! Looking at your studio walls, I'd be tempted to leave them unplaster-boarded, the stonework has a real medieval feel to it all of it's own! Maybe not so great light wise though?

    1. Hi Kate, yes we did have fun - gave the customers something to laugh at! The plan is to just repoint the original walls and leave them exposed, the other walls are breize block so these ones we will plasterboard. As for the floor... well, its old victorian stable cobbled stuff, so either thick rugs in the short term or a floating floor?

  6. Yes, you two look fabulous! So does the shop window.
Your studio is going to be amazing. So much work, though. All the best with that.
(Unfortunately the Python clip wouldn't play for me here in Germany, legal rights and all that, but I'm pretty sure there would have been coconut halves involved..)

  8. I see you have made a start on the new studio, good for you,
a place of your own. You both look terrific in your costumes and so does your window, hope you all had a good event.
I enjoyed your walk seeing more of the area near your new home. The oak trees look wonderful, a lovely country childhood for the girls surrounded by nature.

  9. How exciting ~ a new studio space for you & it will have a special magic to it as you have created it & bought the old building back to life. Good luck! You do both make a handsome couple & I love your costumes & the window display.
