Clannad - Strange Land, from Robin of Sherwood...

Well I'm still trying to get onto my drawing board, but the time machine has broken down for the minute!
Meanwhile I found this fanvid composition on youtube for Robin of Sherwood, does anyone remember the series, you know with Michael Praed playing Robin? We must have watched it dozens of times back in our late teens/early twenties in the days before I needed a time machine!
I've always loved Clannad (I used to rock my eldest daughter to sleep with their songs when she was a baby) and their music threaded through the legend of Robin Hood so perfectly. Its high time we revisited the old series from the beginning I think!

  1. Don't know the series... over here we mustn't have had it. I love Clannad, too and still enjoy several of their albums. I know all about that time machine, these days I'm struggling to keep ANY time for myself, and I don't even HAVE children!

  2. Oh, how I LOVED this series, though if I remember rightly, we only ever got the 5 episodes of the first season here. I've watched quite a few on Youtube though, and Jason Connery just didn't cut it for me, Michael Praed was the only one! Definitely time for a revisit! He he, I still have Clannad's soundtrack on vinyl!

  3. Valerianna, do try and find some to watch... its the only version for me, much truer to the spirit of the legend than the hollywood stuff!

And Christina, I agree, Michael Praed was so much better than Jason Connery wasn't he... I always remember that last arrow scene, so well done perhaps they shouldv'e left Robin there... but all the characters were so good they certainly did have worthwhile stories to continue with...

  4. Does anyone else see shades of today's Merlin series (back again on 8th Oct!) in these images?

Lovely to hear Clannad again. I've just been walking down nostalgia street with my post about a singer/songwriter who died very young... and your post is keeping me in the past a while longer :-)

  5. I memorized that series! -- however, since I had such a crush on the late Robert Addie, the evil Sir Guy of Gisbourne, the change from Michael Praed to Jason Connery was not such a big deal to me. (I do like 'em tall and blond, I must admit -- like Bradley James of "Merlin".) I thought the "merrie men" were a great ensemble cast. That series was where I first encountered Clannad -- and fell in love with them -- and when I hunted down the sound track album, I was delighted to discover there were more where that came from. I think this clip really gives the feel of the show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4Qo4vxXpC8

Valerianna, DVDs of the complete series are available on Amazon.com and you might also be able to rent them. As I recall, the series was shown only on HBO here in the US, which might be why you missed it.

BTW, C.J.Cherryh is in the middle of another "Foreigner" book at the moment. Have I mentioned Patricia McKillip to you? If you aren't familiar with her work, I think you'd like it.
